On Tuesday, April 15th, at 9:10
PM, deputies and investigators from the Larimer
County Sheriff’s Office, along with Berthoud
Fire Department and Loveland Fire Department,
were dispatched to a residence at 3900 Fawn
Trail in Loveland on a report of a residential
structure fire.
Upon arrival deputies contacted a
55 year old male by the name of Francis Pannaman
on the front porch of the residence. Mr.
Pannaman suffered smoke inhalation and was
transported to Longmont United Hospital for
treatment. Statements made to neighbors and
dispatchers by Francis Pannaman’s wife,
Arlene, indicated Mr. Pannaman may have used an
accelerant to intentionally start the fire.
Berthoud Fire Department and
Loveland Fire Department were able to quickly
extinguish the fire but the structure suffered
extensive damage.
This case is currently under a
joint investigation by the Larimer County
Sheriff’s Office and the Loveland Fire Department as
a possible arson. A search warrant was obtained
and evidence was collected from the scene to
help determine the exact cause and nature of the
fire.
No further information is
available at this time.

Great
Blue Herons on Lake Estes
last Sunday afternoon.
This week's photo, taken last Sunday afternoon, features a pair of Great Blue Herons on the shore of beautiful Lakes Estes.
While Great Blue Herons are residents here in the summer, these two were part of a flock of 20 to 30 birds migrating
through the area.
The Great Blue Heron , (Ardea herodias), is a wading bird in the heron family, common over most of North and Central America as well as the West Indies and the Galápagos Islands, except for the far north and deserts and high mountains where there is no water for it to feed in.
It is the largest North American heron, with a head-to-tail length of
36 to 54 in, a wingspan of up to 71 in, and a weight of 4.8 to 8 lbs. It is blue-gray overall, with black flight feathers, red-brown thighs, and a paired red-brown and black stripe up the flanks; the neck is rusty-gray, with black and white streaking down the front; the head is paler, with a nearly white face, and a pair of black plumes running from just above the eye to the back of the head. The feathers on the lower neck are long and plume-like; it also has plumes on the lower back at the start of the breeding season. The bill is dull yellowish, becoming orange briefly at the start of the breeding season, and the lower legs gray, also becoming orangey at the start of the breeding season. Immature birds are duller in color, with a dull blackish-gray crown, and the flank pattern only weakly defined; they have no plumes, and the bill is dull gray-yellow.
The call is a harsh croak; they are most vocal during the breeding season, but will call occasionally at any time of the year in territorial disputes or if disturbed.
